Generally, I like all kind of Mathematics e.g. Differential Equation, Linear Algebra and Probability. My background was in Electrical Engineering where I focused on Signal Processing (Speech Processing) and Control System. In my biomedical engineering master studying, I'm also interested in Optimal Control using Projection Based Optimization Method. I am now interested in the application of Machine Learning algorithm, Applied Convex Optimization and Applied Compressed Sensing to neural data analysis and matrix recovery problem. My principle investigators for my thesis include Konrad Kording and Mathieu D'Acremont.

I am a user of these following software and text editor (I'm very new starter in programming!):
Python - open-source general-purpose interpreted programming language including many useful library e.g. numpy, scikitlearn, pandas, opencv
GNU Emacs - extensible, customizable text editor (even though vim is editor of the beast!)
TextWranger - very capable text editor for the Macintosh (free download on Mac app store)
LaTeX - a document preparation system and document markup language (I'm using Latexian which is LaTeX editor for Mac with advanced features)
Github - I just started Github recently here is my GitHub link

I also use MATLAB, partly use R (for data analysis) and Mathematica (for simulating dynamics of mechanical system).

Package Management System

As a Mac OSX user and I think good way to install software and packages is by using package management system!
MacPorts - open-source community initiative to design an easy-to-use system for compiling, installing, upgrading command-line based open-source software on the OS X operating system. See my simple macports beginners document here
